Karin Elizabeth Dreijer Andersson was born on the 7th of April in 1975 in the Swedish town called Nacka. In 1999 she and her brother Olof Dreijer founded the duet “The Knife” performing the unusual mixture of experimental music with trip-hop, trance, ambient and sinthypop. After the latest release The Knife took a long time-out. The date of the next release is planned to meet the end of the year 2012. The studio album called “The Silent Shout” has gained the overwhelming popularity among the music fans of all ages.
In 2008 Karin Dreijer Andersson came back to the stage with her solo project called “Fever ray” and released her firs single “If I Had a Heart” in the end of the year. It was recorded by the Rabid Records company. On the 12th of January 2009 the first solo album by Karin Dreijer Andersson called “Fever Ray” was released. The famous and acknowledged Swedish musicians such as Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid took part in composing the songs for this album. The Guardian published the list of the best music albums of the year 2009 where “Fever ray” took the second place. Besides that “Fever Ray is in the 24th line in the list of the best music albums of the last ten years published by Resident Advisor. In 2000 the first live album by Fever Ray called “Live in Lulea” was released.
In 2010 the Fever Ray project won the first prize in the nomination “The Best Dance Album” at the P3 Guld Award festival. Several months later Karin Dreijer Andersson performed live at the several music festivals, including Coachella, Electric Picnic and Bestival. She often uses sophisticated costumes drama make-up and fancy masks during her performances.
In 2011 the song “The Wolf” by Fever Ray was used as a soundtrack for the movie “Red Riding Hood” by Catherine Hardwicke. Karin Dreijer Andersson has also composed the soundtrack for the horror movie “Hour of The Wolf” by Ingmar Bergman.
During the present time the members of The Knife are preparing their next album for the release. But it may be released under another name. Fever Ray project is claimed to be ceased officially.
As Karin reports she “feels inspiration for creating the new type of music”. She intends to give the last performances as Fever Ray in September and start a new project the next year.
